Kids Acting Out? Get Them Into Kids Theatre School…

Are you the parent of a future thespian? Do you want to get your kids off their screens and into something that uses their mind and body? Here are three kid-focused theatre schools and some productions they are putting on that you should know about.

Kids Theatre School – Vancouver

With classes and camps available for those from 3 to 17, they’ve got everything covered from teen improv to guided story telling and dress up for the wee ones! What a great way to blow off some steam and get inducted into the world of acting!

Every year Theatre Carousel  gathers a couple of Vancouver lawyers and puts them on stage to prove that Law and Acting are very similar. The Lawyer Show is a fundraiser for Carousel Theatre for Young People and Touchstone Theatre, this years production is based on the popular 1988 film, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Don’t miss the stage adaptation that centres on two successful con men with very different styles who live in the French Riviera. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels runs April 29 thru May 2, 2015 at Theatre Carousel on Granville Island.

Kids Theatre School – Calgary

Dedicated to advancing kids into theatre, CYPT offers productions at three different locations throughout Calgary. On their website you will find information on upcoming plays, auditions, classes and summer camps. If you know a mini Calgarian that would love to be involved they are holding auditions on May 9 and 13th for the Summer 2015 production!

Kids Theatre School – Toronto

With a firm belief that not all learning takes place in the classroom, YPT strives to develop critical thinking, creativity and confidence for young people through their drama classes and stage productions. Offering everything from school break drama camps to personal coaching and writing workshops this top notch organization strives to bring the arts to everyone who seeks it.

Upcoming production ‘Tagged’ is aimed at audiences from Grades 7 to 12 and deals with a party photo gone viral via social media and it’s implications for the kids involved. Playing April 21- May 08, don’t miss this performance that acts as a commentary on today’s real issues facing our teen population.

I am devoted to making people love living in their homes. I have done that with absolute joy for most of my life and as a career for the past 20 years or so... I am a homebody – I do not actively seek adventure but I have had adventures. I believe home is the most sacred and important place in the world. I say I grew up on a farm – but I doubt technically it would qualify as a farm. Five acres – one milk cow – one calf - we ate them when they grew up, lots of chickens and a few pigs – we ate them too… I was that kid who dragged rugs and furniture out to the orchard and set up outdoor rooms. It mixed my two favourite things – outside and comfortable furniture. My friends and I would sleep outside in my “rooms”. It was magical because my ceiling was full of stars. I have lived in small houses, big houses, basement suites, cottages, condos and apartments. I have built and I have renovated houses. For a short time in my young life I was without a home – this changed me. I have lived with pets, wanted and unwanted – rodents are unwanted… I have lived in a house richly full with the raising of my four children. I have had the tremendous joy of my children carrying my grandchildren into my home. I have had my home become an “empty nest” and my life shrunken and shattered with the loss of my beloved husband. Home and my people there have always been my comfort. It does not matter where home is, it only matters that you are in it and that you find comfort there and that is why I do what I do.
